A pioneering figure in the emerging fields of conceptual, post minimal, video, and performance art in the late 1960s, Keith Sonnier today continues to forge a singular sculptural language that defies easy categorization. From his earliest investigations of ephemeral and unstable materials including flocking, latex, and neon, to his later, more complex articulations of the ways in which architecture, light, and form commingle to shape experience, Sonnier has radically reframed the function of sculpture through a sensitive and idiosyncratic understanding of materiality and physicality.

For over five decades, Sonnier has combined his signature neon with scrap metals, TV antennas, found objects, and other unexpected materials in a seemingly endless stream of often playful and always inventive works of art. This 132-page volume illustrates how the artist - who has traveled widely in India, Japan, and Indonesia - continues to mine the varied histories and vernacular vocabularies into an inquiry that produces idiosyncratic and compelling objects. Keith Sonnier: Until Today brings together work from each decade of the artist's career, offering an unparalleled opportunity to reexamine and more fully appreciate Sonnier's key role in American art history.

The exhibition was on view from March 15 to June 2, 2019.
